Edmunds.com Reviews the 2017 Ram ProMaster Cargo Van

The cargo van scene has changed significantly in recent years. These days, the optimal cargo van is lighter, narrower and taller than its predecessors, making it more efficient in term of fitting all shapes and sizes of cargo, as well as easier to drive and safer. Edmunds.com recently reviewed one of the new leaders in the category, the 2017 Ram ProMaster, which is highly customizable and suitable for many kinds of work.
640 × 480

As a starter, Edmunds.com loves the ProMaster very short hood and large front window shield, as it affords excellent forward visibility and makes it navigating turns much easier. The ProMaster is available in 1500, 2500 and 3500 versions, depending on what type of and how much cargo you want to fit inside the vehicle. The van has seven possible configurations, including two roof heights, four wheelbases and four body lengths. Most buyers will likely opt for the higher roof, in particular, as it accommodates a wider range of material sizes, particularly if you're transporting glass, sheetrock or plywood pieces.

The ProMaster has two engine options. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. There's also an available 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 174 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Properly equipped the ProMaster can carry payloads of up to 5,160 pounds and can tow up to 5,100 pounds.
